Madrid is one of the most sought-after destinations at the moment. Art and culture – from some of the best museums in the world, such as the Prado Museum, to hit musicals – are two powerful reasons that attract thousands of travelers to Madrid. Its lifestyle also plays a part, with friendly, lively streets at practically any hour of the day. The rich gastronomy, a blend of tradition and modernity, is yet another reason that draws countless visitors. There are innumerable quality restaurants, offering the most varied culinary experiences and suitable for all budgets.

Gastronomy is a fundamental element in elevating your travel experience and Muslim travelers will also find excellent Halal restaurants in Madrid. In our section on halal restaurants in Madrid, you will discover a fine selection of them. But before you visit this section or type “Halal restaurants near me” on your phone, we offer here you a quick list of the best.

We have detailed them according to the different culinary cultures. All of them offer 100% halal menus and dishes (prepared with halal ingredients and meats halal certified), although some also serve alcohol on the premises.

Moroccan restaurants

This is undoubtedly one of the best represented in the city and, probably for obvious reasons of proximity, the first halal cuisine to be established in Spain. In 1966, what is considered the first Arab restaurant in Madrid, Al Mounia, opened its doors, completely dedicated to the flavors of Morocco. Or, as the restaurant itself proclaims, to “high Maghreb cuisine.” For decades, this restaurant remained almost a “rara avis” or a gastronomic exception. But since the late 1990s – and especially in this century, as Madrid’s Muslim community has experienced rapid growth through immigration – Moroccan and halal restaurants have multiplied, reaching practically every neighborhood in the city, particularly in the central districts. You can find more here, but in this quick list we highlight three.

Al Mounia

Al Mounia is one of Madrid’s best-known halal and Moroccan restaurants. Its over 50-year history, prime central location in one of the city’s most elegant neighborhoods, and exceptional decor have made it a standout choice. The best Moroccan artisans spent months perfecting the restaurant’s stunning decor, immersing you in Morocco’s most traditional, authentic, and luxurious ambiance. And the culinary offerings are just as faithful to the country’s tradition: couscous, tajines, pastelas, skewers… Of course, all the ingredients are halal, although the restaurant also serves alcohol.

Souksou

Souksou

One of the youngest, most innovative, and acclaimed options. A small and charming venue also located in the heart of Lavapiés neighborhood. It captures the essence of Morocco’s street food, but with modern touches and the concept of a “Couscous bar.” Homemade and authentic food is lovingly prepared by a charming staff.

  • Halal status: Full Halal Food (Alcohol is served)
  • Address:  Salitre, 43

Al Bahía

Al Bahía

The best definition we can give of Al Bahía is this: a popular Moroccan restaurant located in the heart of Lavapiés, one of Madrid’s most central, vibrant, and multicultural neighborhoods. A place whose main clientele is the Moroccan community itself, and where you can enjoy everything from breakfast to dinner in a non-stop kitchen. Generous portions and truly pocket-friendly prices make it a favorite.

  • Halal status: Full Halal – Alcohol free
  • Address: Lavapiés, 3
  • Average a la carte price: 10 € – 15 €

Arab and Middle Eastern restaurants

Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan are very well represented in Madrid, and their cuisines boast excellent restaurants. You can find more here, but in this quick list we highlight two.

Beytna

Beytna

Beytna means “our home” in Arabic, and this Jordanian restaurant offers plenty of homestyle flavors, earning one of the highest overall ratings in Madrid (that is, not only among Arab restaurants), according to Tripadvisor users. Delightful details include freshly baked bread made in a wood-fired oven. It also features a terrace.

Solidere

Solidere is a benchmark in Madrid for the best of Lebanese cuisine. Using fresh, high-quality ingredients in recipes that blend tradition with modern touches, their menu offers both classic and innovative dishes—from cold and hot mezze to main courses and desserts. They also provide a daily menu (lunches from Tuesday to Friday), as well as vegetarian, gluten-free, and children’s options.

Other Middle Eastern cuisines, such as Turkish or Iranian, also feature excellent halal restaurants in Madrid.

  • Average a la carte price: 30 € – 35 €

Jalo

Straddling the line between a restaurant and a fast-food establishment, Jalo is one of the most recognized Turkish eateries in Madrid, undoubtedly aided by its strategic location very close to Atocha train station, in the heart of the city. At Jalo, tradition and high-quality ingredients, especially the meats, are highlighted. The cooking and barbecue are done in full view.

  • Halal status: Full Halal Food (Alcohol is served)
  • Address: Atocha 116
  • Average a la carte price: 15 € – 25 €
  • Delivery Service

Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi restaurants

They were not the first halal restaurants to arrive in Madrid, but in just a few years they have grown like wildfire and are now among the most numerous. In central areas like Lavapiés, you will find several streets where they proliferate, often side by side. Although almost all of them present themselves as “Indian” restaurants (the most popular label among the Spanish public), the majority are run by people from Pakistan and Bangladesh, and they are indeed halal restaurants (although it is not uncommon at times to not see visible halal labels). You can find more here, but in this quick list we highlight two.

Taste of India

Taste of India

Offering all the classic dishes of the Indian subcontinent with a contemporary twist: a variety of curries, tandoori, korma, biryanis… Nothing unexpected awaits you, but the dishes are more than satisfactory in a quiet establishment with friendly staff. It is centrally located, very close to Santa Ana Square and about 400 meters from Puerta del Sol.

Bangalore Modern Indian Cuisine

Bangalore Modern Indian Cuisine

This is not just another Indian restaurant. Here, traditional recipes have a creative twist. We are talking about “haute Indian cuisine” in a stylish restaurant with cosmopolitan decor, located in the Salamanca neighborhood, one of Madrid’s most luxurious areas. Another perk: it has a terrace.

  • Halal status: Full Halal Food (Alcohol is served)
  • Address: Diego de León, 63
  • Average a la carte price: 30 € – 40€
  • Daily lunch menu (Monday to Friday): €17

Southeast Asian Restaurants

Thai cuisine is the most prevalent in Madrid, but aside from the outlets of the casual food chains Padthaiwok – with three locations in the capital and over 40 across Spain – and Mister Noodles – with one restaurant in Madrid and 14 throughout Spain – none of the Thai restaurants are halal. However, you can enjoy halal restaurants dedicated to Indonesian and Malaysian cuisines.

Garuda

Garuda

Garuda is the successor to Madrid’s first Indonesian and halal restaurant, Sabor Nusantara, and continues with the same philosophy: traditional Indonesian recipes where dishes like gado-gado salad, nasi goreng, mie goreng noodles, and chicken skewers (sate ayam) are indispensable, alongside other foolproof dishes featuring chicken, beef, fish, seafood, and vegetables. All are offered at good prices in a bright restaurant with large windows and a strategic location near Real Madrid’s stadium.

  • Halal status: Full Halal Food (Alcohol is served)
  • Address: Avenida de Brasil, 30
  • Average a la carte price: 20 € – 30€
  • Daily lunch menu (Monday to Friday): €13.50 and €15.90

Malaisie

Malaysia

To enjoy the delights of the only Malaysian restaurant in Madrid, you will have to venture away from the city center, but it is well worth it. Fresh, high-quality ingredients enhance the flavors of Malaysian cuisine, offering authentic tastes in nasi lemak, satay, rendang, roti canai, and many more.

  • Halal status: Full Halal Food (Alcohol is served)
  • Address: Alcalá 501
  • Average a la carte price: 15 € – 25€

Halal Fast Food and Casual Food

Casual and fast food outlets are by far the most abundant type of halal restaurant. In Madrid, there are dozens of kebab houses, most of which are halal. However, even though their offerings are 100% halal and often alcohol-free, they are not always identified with visible halal labels outside the establishment.

The Matbah

The Matbah

Completely central (located between Puerta del Sol and Gran Vía), clean, and boasting excellent user ratings. It offers all the classic options of Turkish and Middle Eastern fast food, including falafel and dolma wraps, durum, shawarma, mixed plates, and Turkish toasts, as well as some Mexican options such as tacos or jalapeños.

In addition, grilled beef cuts in Argentine and Brazilian styles, along with deliciously crispy roasted chickens, form the main attraction of this outstanding eatery. It offers quality casual food at excellent prices. There are several locations in Madrid; one of them is near the Las Ventas Bullring and just a 10-minute walk from the Islamic Cultural Center of Madrid.
